About the Photos
Adding photos to a memorial is an age-old tradition that is practiced for a variety of reasons. For some it is a cultural tradition to add a photo while, for others, it is just personal preference. Whatever the case may be, photos are a product we offer and sell a lot of.
Those who have been selling monuments a long time are likely familiar with porcelain photos. They may still call them that out of habit. But the photos we use today aren’t porcelain. In fact, they are made of a stronger, more durable enameled steel.
We can add a photo to any new or existing memorial, making them a great product to offer for new and previously served families alike.
How They Attach
If you walk through the cemetery and pay attention to photos on stones, you will notice they are typically attached one of two ways: on the surface of the stone or inlayed into the surface.
Our favorite way to attached photos is to the surface of the stone. Using an industrial strength adhesive, we simple “glue” the photo to the stone. We like this method because the photos we sell come with a lifetime warranty against cracking, chipping, fading and vandalism. Should we ever need to do warranty work to a photo, we can easily remove it and replace it.
The inlay method, however, doesn’t offer us the ability to remove the photo should it ever require replacement. When we inlay the photo we sandblast a frame into the granite and then sink the photo into the frame thus making it flush with the surface of the stone. We then pin and adhere the photo and seal around it. This is permanent and may not be redone in the future.
How to Order
In the price book we have a page dedicated to photos. It lists the most common sizes we sell along with the pricing.
When you submit your order you may upload the photo into the file via Stone Spot. If you aren’t utilizing Stone Spot, you are welcome to email the photo to us.
Photo Edits
Our design team has the ability to edit the photos you send. Minor edits such as correcting a pixelated photo, are of no additional charge. We may also remove a person from a photo, change the background or add text at no additional charge.
Edits that do require an additional charge are things like adding limbs to a person’s image, changing clothing, combining multiple photos and so forth.
