There are many things about this memorial that we love, starting with the “shell rock” border cut into the stone. The shell rock border is the strip of rocky stone that surrounds the face of the memorial. That strip may appear to look simple, but it was crafted by hand with a great deal of precision and care.

Notice the flowers and how they have shape and dimension? The flowers and leaves are shape carved, which is a hand-crafted technique used to add life-like features and movement to greenery. It took several hours to shape carve each individual leaf and petal by hand.

Three pieces of Ebony Mist granite were used to complete this look- the tablet (top), the base (bottom) and the flower pot.
