Getting Started in 4 Simple Steps
At Emerson Monument Company, we offer full memorial service.

Step 1
Know your cemetery's rules and regulations. This should have been provided to you when you purchased your plot(s).
Key information to know includes:
- Do you own (1) or (2) plots?
- What are the dimensions of your plot(s)?
- Are you in a cemetery or cemetery section that requires a specific kind of monument?
Step 2
Know if you want your monument to memorialize one person, two people or more.
For some people, this is an easy decision and they can skip to Step 3. But, for others, this is a tough one. Here are some common situations to think through.
- If your spouse has passed away, it is okay to not be certain if you want a single or a double monument
- With cremation, placing two or more people in one plot is allowed at many cemeteries. In this case, you could do a single width monument for two people.
- If your loved one was cremated and placed in someone else's plot with an existing headstone, you might consider memorializing
- Would you like to leave room for future family members to be added to the monument
Step 3
This memorial is a permanent legacy- built to withstand the test of time. Think through the story you want it to tell.
- Know the names and dates of life of the person(s) being honored
- Think through any emblems or decor you might like
- Consider adding genealogy information
- Would you like to add an epitaph?
- If you are doing an upright monument, would you like to have engraving on the back?
